Family Art & Science Night at Mirada
Conducting Your Experiment
- You need to ensure you repeat your experiment at least 3 times or have 3 trials in the one experiment. So for plant growing, you would have 3 of the same plant.
- Before you start, think safety and know exactly what you're going to do.
- Be sure to have a laboratory notebook for taking notes and collecting data (journal, bound spiral, etc). Prepare a table so you can write down your data quickly if need be.
- Do a preliminary run to get an idea of what you're doing.
Your notebook is VERY important during your experiment. Be sure to put the date on each page or entry you start and any conditions that might influence your experiment (like rain, cold, etc). Never assume you will be able to remember something, write it down (note which pictures were taken or draw and label sketches to record your observations). If you need to change the experiment while you are conducting it, fine, just document it!!!! Also, NEVER ERASE in your notebook. If you want to change something - cross it out and move on. Pictures should also be a primary aspect of your experiment. If you deviate from the experimental procedure - document it and make sure the remaining 2 trials are done exactly the same way. Please read the info from Science Buddies for conducting your experiment if you have questions.
In your notebook - include your thoughts and impressions.
Please bring your notebook to the science fair with your display.
